Scarlet Holvenstot's 4th Post

I stand for freedom of expression. Teenagers are constantly battling issues and obligations. One way to express our feelings is by our image. Generally our clothes and make up reflect who we are. It is important for youth to have the option of crossing that limit of what is socially acceptable. Tattoos and pricings are risky and somewhat raunchy, but if they help what is on the inside be revealed to the outside on a more comfortable level for the person, they are beneficial. People should not have to pretend they are something they are not. We are born a certain way and there are not many ways that we can alter this image other than the clothes we wear and alterations such as hair color and nail polish. Our society is stuck in this strict mindset of what is beautiful. People must open up their minds and realize what makes other people happy should be accepted. My public high school has a strict dress code regarding piercing and hair color and anything that is “distracting”. This is very cruel considering we are all just trying to find our place in the world and these minor alterations help define who we are and make us feel beautiful. Freedom of expression is vital for the ultimate quest in finding out who we are. Adults need to accept who we are and who we want to become, and support us in every way possible.
