I Stand For,
I stand for…
Recently, the government has been trying to pass the PIPA and SOPA acts. The SOPA act stands for, Stop Online Piracy Act and then the PIPA act is also known as (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property At of 2011.) This act would outlaw any sites that promote the distribution of illegal material. The bill would also cut of payment sites such as Paypal or Mastercard in the idea that they would be transmitting payments towards these illegal sites.
In my opinion, this is not a smart idea. It will create sites to worry if they’re supporting these sites. It will cause great stress everywhere.
Most of the Internet supported in an Internet blackout. Wikipedia even went dark for twenty-four hours in protest to each of these acts. Also Reddit supported in the twenty-four hour blackout, along with BoingBoing, Mozilla, WordPress, TwitPic, and MoveOn.org. Google even posted on their page a “Tell Congress: Please don’t censor the web.” As you can see the image to the left, is the picture that Google posted on their home page.
I really oppose what SOPA and PIPA are trying to do. I think it is really not a good idea. The amount of time and effort being put into it is not worth it. Many sites would go down, including some major ones. I do not stand for PIPA and SOPA passing this act.
